About NCEA Scholars
Specifically we awarded 'scholar' badges to students who received endorsements for merit or excellence in NCEA.
An endorsement means that at least 50 of the credits were either at merit or excellence standard.
Junior House Awards
2007 saw the introduction of a new Junior House Awards Programme which took the shape of badges. The badges were awarded across 4 disciplines.
These were Academic, Culture, Sport and Participation. In order to be eligible for an award Y9 and 10 students had to be nominated by their form class teacher or house leaders.
The graduation report assisted with the academic award as well as STAR, ESA, PAT Listening and Paul Nation Vocabulary work. Culture centred around Kapa Haka, stage challenge, speeches, music, drama, art and languages. Sport featured commitment and attitude as well as ability from either one particular sport or a wide range. The participation award became the most highly sought after as it represented the all rounder who participated enthusiastically, fairly, intelligently and skilfully in a wide variety of events. Junior House Awards for Term 1 & 2 were presented by Student House Leaders at assembly on Tuesday 5th August. A full listing of the 2007 awards can be found by following this link: 2007 Junior House Awards.
Relay 4 Life

Over 70 students, staff and parents were involved in the Stratford High School Relay 4 Life teams. The student teams were captained by Erica Phillips and Lyteshar Drewery (Team 1) and Ava Swan and Nicola Duthie (Team 2). Participants got into the act and dressed in the team theme of black and white for the 24 hour period. Thanks to Mrs Constantin who was the liaison with the Relay 4 Life organisers and who managed to get us great tent sites. The new school shelter made our site easy to find and recognisable for all the staff, parents and friends that came to visit us. Our team entered the Relay Idol and won our heat with the biggest cheers. We then went on to win the final on the sunday morning after the voting had finished. It was really exciting. Our teams raised over $4000 for the Taranaki Cancer Society and we encourage students to be involved next year, whether it is in the school team or other teams of friends and families..
