Craig Scholarship

The Craig Scholarship was founded following a bequest to the school by the late Mr Laurence Roy Craig. The scholarship provides a monetary amount to assist an ex-pupil with their fees when studying at a tertiary level, with a focus on agriculture or horticulture. It can only be awarded to an ex-pupil of Stratford High School for tertiary education in the agriculture or horticulture fields.

Applications for the 2012 Craig Scholarship recipient will be available from January 2012..
The terms of the scholarship and application form can be downloaded from the link below. The scholarship's value will be determined at the SHS BOT meeting, but in past years this scholarship has been $1000. Applications must be sent in writing to the

Drama

Every year, Stratford High School stduents can participate in the following events:

  • Taranaki Speech and Drama Festival
  • Stage Challenge "Epiphany" 2010; "Life is a Highway" - 2008
  • Sheila Winn Shakespeare Festival
  • Manu Korero Festival / Pae Rangatahi Festival
  • Drama productions take place every couple of years
  • School Variety Concert
  • School Choir
  • Rotary and Lions Club performing arts and public speaking competitions

KAPA Haka

Kapa Haka promotes Te Reo me ona Tikanga.
Language and Culture is taught whilst developing leadership skills and a group identity using dance, music and song. The Kapa Haka group practice every Thursday from 10.15 am to 11.30 am in Te Amorangi.

Music

In addition to music being taught as part of the curriculum in Year 9, students can choose a music course in Year 10. Individual or small group music tuition is also available with a variety of Itinerant music teachers.

School Choir:
Mrs Trueman has started a school choir. Students who are interested must see Mrs Trueman and watch daily notices for practice times.

Air Training Corp

No48 (District of Stratford) Squadron, Air Training Corp meet at the Squadron Building, Fenton St, Stratford (next to RSA flats) on a Tuesday night. Cadet Forces are a voluntary, disciplined, uniformed youth leadership training organisation for both boys and girls, 13-18 years old. The training programme is challenging and emphasises personal development also fostering the spirit of adventure and teamwork. Cadets learn skills that will be useful in either service or civilian life. Come along and see if it's for you. Bring a parent or caregiver if you wish.
