Careers information for senior students

Please sign up for anything you are interested in on the Careers Notice Board outside Mrs Lett’s office. Information about open days and liaison visits happening in terms 2 and 3 is listed on the careers page. Also on this page great tips for picking subjects, information on getting prepared for next year and links to some useful web sites.

Free Introductory session on Studyit

Studyit www.studyit.org.nz is a free, safe, online Ministry of Education resource for NCEA Maths, science, biology, physics, chemistry and English students. Achievement standards in these subjects have been repackaged specifically for students and include links to relevant revision material ( www.studyit.org.nz/subject/ ) There are also forums where students can post questions and receive answers from expert teachers.

Student questions are answered seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. Students also support each other on the forums. Additional subjects and student issues are discussed on the "Other" forum. For an introductory session on Studyit, please contact www.studyit.org.nz

Stationery

Stationery lists for students are available by following the links below. These will open as a PDF file. The files are for 2009 students. All junior students would have received the appropriate listing with their final graduation report. Senior students should have picked a list up on book return day otherwise they will be available on course confirmation or peer support day.

Students With Special Needs

Some students have special needs due to learning difficulties or physical disabilities. Reading and Maths tuition is available and teacher aides assist some students in the classroom. The aim is to improve the skills and achievement of all students.

Enhancement and Extension

In Year 9 students are ability grouped in Mathematics and English. A Gifted and talented programme is being set up to provide for further development of skills and abilities.

In Year 10 an extension teaching class is provided for the core teaching subjects.

Adult Students
Adults are welcome to pursue a course of study at Stratford High School. Every effort will be made by the school to fit individual educational needs.
